Abstract:Strength tests are conducted on the packaging corrugated boxes of heavy decorative lights with same size and different handle locations to discuss the effects of handle hole on the compressive strength. The height within 1/6 above the height of the lateral center line is evenly quartered and 4 test points are determined, based on which handle holes are opened and compressive strength tests of empty box are taken. The results show the compressive strength degrades if the box is punched on the lateral side, and the loss of strength is minimal when the handle hole is located at 1/18 of the height above the center line on the box.
