Abstract:The equivalent stiffness identification method has been used to simplify the model of a high-rise primary structure. A comparison has been made of the dynamic characteristics of the simplified model and the original model of ETABS, followed by a comparison between the structural response under various excitations including earthquake action as well. In order to illustrate the importance of utilizing the correct model for the high-rise structure in the dynamic analysis, a comparison and an analysis have been made of the natural frequency and mode shape of shear-typed model and curved model. TMD is to be designed based on the curved model and the shear-typed model, to be added to the curved primary structure, with the displacement response of the structure also compared. The results show that the dynamic response of the shear-typed structure is quite different from that of the curved structure. With the simplified model of curved structure accurately representing the original model, the shear-typed model is not recommended or at least should be used with caution in the structural control design for high-rise buildings.
