Abstract:Based on the full-text database of CNKI, a statistical analysis has been made of non-cited articles in Packaging Journal from 2009—2013. A total of 370 articles has been published in the journal from 2009 to 2013, among which, up to the date of statistics, as many as 51 articles have never been a source of citation, with a zero citation rate of the journal as high as 13.78%. There is only one English article among all the 51 non-cited ones, accounting for 1.96% of the total. As for the theme of articles, those related to“packaging culture and education” and “art and design” occupy a relatively larger proportion in zero citation. Compared with the average length of the journal articles during the same period, the average length of the non-cited articles is slightly smaller than the average length of all the articles. In terms of authors of the non-cited articles, lecturers with a master,s degree or below account for a large proportion of 35.29% and 33.33%, respectively. Among them, the zero citation rate of articles of co-authors of two exceeds the total publication rate. The number of non-cited articles is much smaller than that of the total articles. Based on the statistical analysis, it is suggested that an effort should be made to minimize or avoid the publication of English articles, articles with such lowly-correlative themes as “art and design”, highly theoretical articles with vague and general argumentation or with little academic value, and professional theses or graduate papers of poor quality. Meanwhile it is advisable to expand the scale of published papers, increase the number of references and the length of articles as well.
