Abstract:As an important medium for the construction and dissemination of urban images, urban movie is a prism for reflecting the changes in urban space, and a window for thinking about the relationship between the city and its people, as well as between people and places. At a time when urban landscapes are becoming homogenized, Lilong has been constructed through audiovisual art to interpret local images with unique qualities. The new century urban movies’ cinematic construction of Shanghai Lilong not only shows us different slices of places and their references in urban space, but also inspires us to think about the relationship between people and places, and at the same time highlights the profound value of local images. By depicting the residential features and folk culture of the Lilong images, these cinematic representations enable audiences across generations and regions to share collective urban memories while fostering a unique sense of urban locality, reinforcing the viewers’ geographical identity, and accentuating the value of geo-cultural heritage.
