Abstract:Tourism is an integral component of Chinese modernization—a comprehensive undertaking encompassing elements such as subjects and objects, concepts, institutions, governance, leisure, industries, and public services. The modernization of tourism represents the unification of the modernization of tourism subjects and objects. It is primarily realized through the modernization of tourism concepts, the industrial modernization linked by tourism products, the application of modern technologies throughout the whole chain of the tourism sector, and the modernization of tourism governance. Among these, the modernization of concepts constitutes the fundamental requirement and primary indicator of the modernization of tourism subjects and even the entire tourism industry. The main features of Chinese tourism modernization are reflected in three aspects: placing special emphasis on the modernization of tourism subjects, adhering to the coordinated development of urban-rural tourism and the ecological environment, and constructing a balanced structure between on-site tourism and virtual tourism.
