Abstract:The dual success of The Battle at Lake Changjin in both critical acclaim and box office revenue is inseparable from its grand, stirring heroic narrative. The film gradually unfolds across three distinct dimensions: heroic legend narrative, heroic ensemble narrative and heroic growth narrative, together composing a heroic hymn that praises the spirit of the War of Resisting U.S. Aggression and Aiding North Korea as well as the sentiment of home and country. It not only inherits the experience of traditional revolutionary historical films but also fully embodies the requirements of new mainstream film production. By courageously sublating and innovating within tradition, the film achieves harmony between mainstream values and market appeal, unifying ideological depth, commercial viability, and artistic excellence. This provides valuable insights for the improvement of the quality, and the innovation of narrative paradigms of domestic war films.
