Abstract:Shen Congwen is not only a well-known modern writer, but also an outstanding newspaper editor. Throughout his life, he edited 20 official publications, for most of which he acted as the chief editor. After examining the history of Shen Congwen’s editorial activities, and especially the core group of writers who published articles during his tenure as editor in chief, it can be found that he has a special fondness for young writers who have just entered the literary world, especially literary newcomers from university campuses. Shen Congwen’s strong efforts in cultivating and promoting young writers are closely related to his literary ideals and aesthetic pursuits. Behind them lies a profound “May Fourth Complex” and literary revolutionary ideas, embodying his desire to rebuild literary classics and national character, and thus promote social progress.
