Abstract:Chen Danqing’s prose quality is closely related to his painting practice. Chen Danqing’s painting experience gave him a series of ways of thinking to observe the world, and these unique “views” also influenced his writing style of prose. Specifically speaking, the visual thinking brought by painting technology makes his prose proficient in the description of color, light, and space, focusing on the visible layers of portraits, clothing, and buildings; the way of viewing and thinking of “seeing the phenomenon regardless of the essence” makes his prose more objectively described, thus showing a dramatic sense of the scene; the experiential path of salvaging the richness of history from “retrogression” and “partial” acquired in painting affects the emphasis on “details” in his prose. Starting from painting experience, understanding Chen Danqing’s prose creation can not only examine the interactive relationship between images and literature, but also grasp the cognitive framework and experience of Chen Danqing’s artistic practice.
