The discussion of gender issues in the ideological circle during the May Fourth Movement period was not “uniform”, but presented a diverse ideological pattern, among which Lu Xun’s gender thought was unique. Lu Xun was always riqilant and skeptical of elite consciousness, and he put himself in the place of the people and cared for the survival of women at the bottom of the society. Starting from the reality of Chinese women’s existence, Lu Xun was cautious about the avant-garde sex theory at that time, and focused more on solving the practical problems related to the situation of the majority of women. With the in-depth understanding and thinking of the reality of Chinese society, Lu Xun accepted the influence of Marxism and found a road to women’s liberation which integrates ideological enlightenment and social revolution. In a word, Lu Xun’s thought of gender liberation is very local, and it is advanced just because of this locality.
