There appeared a group of affix names in Hong Lou Meng, and these affix names contained rich and colorful folk customary cultures. The Yangs and the Hawkes adopted different translation methods and strategies, which remains part of the folk customary cultures, but both translation could not express the culture connotation of the group of the affixes as a whole at all, which more or less caused a certain loss in the transmission of Chinese name culture and also caused some confusion to western readers’understanding of the plot, the effect is still not idealized. In fact, if the translators regard it as important with rigorous attitude and careful consideration, according to the language feature of the English nick names , we can use free translation plus suffix “y” or “ie”, or plus “Sr.”, or “Jr.” etc. in front, which can also offer some enlightenment and reference to the English translation of the Chinese people’s names .
