As Xi Jinping’s diplomatic treatise, On Building a Human Community with a Shared Future embodies the diplomatic thoughts of socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era and fully reflects Xi Jinping’s style of diplomatic narrative. Based on Mona Baker’s concept of narratology, this paper analyzes Xi’s diplomatic discourse and its translation version, which can not only highlight the role and efficacy of the translator as the subject of translation, but also contribute to the construction of China’s diplomatic narration. Through the operation of narrative strategies, including the framing of time and space, the selective appropriation of textual material, the framing of labels and the repositioning of participants, the translation successfully reframed the ontological narratives, public narratives, conceptual narratives and meta-narratives of Xi’s diplomatic discourse in the new era. At the same time, the author points out that the integration of narratology and diplomatic translation can not only broaden the subject field of narratology, but also provide a new perspective for the study of diplomatic discourse and propose a new path reference for the completion of the established translation mission. Maintaining the height of politics, figuring out the depth of culture, grasping the dimension of thought and using the breadth of translation skills have all become important factors for diplomatic translators to successfully complete narrative framing.
