Abstract:Frontier studies is a discipline that developed rapidly in the era of the Republic of China. During this era, a large number of Chinese eminent scholars participated in the academic researches of Frontier studies and made outstanding contributions to its development, thus making the Frontier studies become a famous school. Along with the fate of the country at that time, the researches of Frontier studies not only had a sense of urgency to create knowledge, but also had the purpose of application. Therefore, it produced some gaps with traditional Chinese academic researches because of the “purity” standard. To study the achievements in knowledge creation and application of the school of frontier studies can help us to understand the romantic feelings of the Chinese scholars who combined their personal destiny with the national destiny, and to explore their intentions of devoting themselves to sinicize the “western learning”. The academic practice of the scholars of the frontier school, who went out of the “armchair” and focused on the fieldwork studies with the positive attitude or spirit which was secular and practical, has also enlightened the research of Humanities and social sciences in contemporary era.
