Abstract:Following the popularity of officialdom novels in the 1980s and 1990s, Ma Xiaoquan’s recent work The Lost City also takes the officialdom life as the main content. Compared with the narrative modes of “growth narrative”, “officialdom exploration” and “corruption revelation” which have gradually solidified in the narration of officialdom novels before, the narration of The Lost City has made a relatively new breakthrough, which is mainly manifested in Ma Xiaoquan’s placing the plot of officialdom narration on the basis of traditional culture and combining literary creation with cultural influence. The narration of The Lost City not only makes the characters in the novel more plentiful and the narrative basis of the novel more solid, but also changes the single situation of the narrative mode of the existing officialdom novels, which is compatible with broader thoughts and the “thoughts” of life, realizes the real link between “officialdom” and “life”, and provides a new writing paradigm for the subsequent creation of officialdom novels.
