Abstract:Since the 1990s, He Dun has created a series of novels that show the impact of contemporary Chinese economic and social transformation on individual hearts. These works with a strong sense of presence are He Dun’s observation of the times and human nature. In his new novel Happiness Street, He Dun changes from the scene to the history and combs the life track and spiritual difficulties of the Chinese people born in 1950s from the source by narrating the life course of two generations and half a century on Happiness Street in Huangjia Town. It explores the upheaval and constancy in social history and personal life with a historical perspective, and reconstructs the integrity of his realistic literary narrative and historical judgment.
