“White Horse Lake Writers”upheld the concept of “literature is life” and carried out literary creation under the guidance of humanitarian thought. They abhorred the destruction of human nature by feudal ethics and hierarchy, and sympathized with the miserable fate of the people at the bottom, and severely criticized war and immoral behaviors. Their works are full of humanitarian feelings of realizing a better society and the free and all-round development of human beings. However, the attitude of keeping a distance from the reality makes them unable to have a broader vision. The limitations of civilian position make them only show sympathy for the civilians but lack a deeper thinking on social issues. Therefore, their creation has always been outside the mainstream of the times.
