Abstract:Since the second half of the 19th century, China and Japan have started to send diplomatic envoys to each other and the staff of the mission have made important contributions to the promotion of SinoJapanese relations and cultural exchanges. Li Shuchang served twice as the minister to Japan, during which he held and participated the banquet poetry gatherings of Chinese and Japanese officials and literati for many times, and edited many books of banquet poems related to them. This not only carried forward the oriental traditional culture and promoted the cultural exchanges between China and Japan, but also combined culture with diplomacy, and promoted the development of friendly relations between China and Japan.
