As a special cultural decoration of ancestral hall, the stage couplets have the function of general ancestral architecture，such as expression of ancestors’ memorial and sacrifices. But at the same time，they serve as a place for spiritual sacrifices to ancestors. Its function is somewhat special， for example，the couplets writers use the Confucian ritual music to teach people and express their philosophical thinking on society, life and the performance of traditional Chinese operas. These couplets reflect a strong Confucian ritual music color, which is not only related to the patriarchal system in China since the Zhou Dynasty，but also linked to the historical and cultural environment in southern Hunan.
