Abstract:In the early Eastern Han Dynasty, Emperor Cheng was excluded from the narrative in Holy system, which is a typical imperial luxury. In the Ode to Xidu, Ban Gu described Zhaoyangs prosperity, regarded both Emperor Cheng and Emperor Wu as the representatives of the luxury in Xidu, and analyzed the causes of the decline of the Western Han Dynasty from a historians perspective. Meanwhile, he also fondly recalled the foundation of ten generations, admired the last flourishing age of Xidu, which represented the general mentality of some scholars in the early Eastern Han dynasty. Apart from the luxury of Emperor Cheng and Emperor Wu, and the model role of Mas and Yangs odes, the Ban familys collective memory of Emperor Chengs time is one of the key factors of the focusing on Emperor Cheng in the Ode to Xidu.
