From a special perspective, Huang Lin’s poetry anthology, Beijing, a Merciful City, recorded her talk with Beijing with poetic language. It is a new kind of city writing with survival experience which is different from farming era. The poet expressed a feminist’s mental process during the development of urbanization, united perfectly her clear-cut feminist standpoint and concern about the living conditions of the females in city. She introduced a way of intellectual writing and used it skillfully, which is a correction for excess erotic catharsis and easy stream-of-life approach in present female poems.
