There are a total of five records about Shen Hui in Tanjing of Zong Bao version.Some of the records are detailed while others are brief.In the records, there are not only some dialogues of Shen Hui’s initial visit to Hui Neng but also Shen Hui’s behaviors after the death of Hui Neng.All the records show the image of Shen Hui stereoscopically. Shen Hui was very smart and mastered the classical teachings.However, he did not reach the enlightenment of Buddhist religious practice. Hui Neng gave both negative and positive comments on him. Afterwards,Shen Hui determined the aim of Southern Zen School and attacked the Northern Zen School.This behavior has its positive significance, but its negative influence should not be ignored.
