Abstract:In modern Chinese history, there have been two attitudes towards western culture: either refusing to accept it at all or a total westernization. Both phenomena are results of a lack of cultural confidence and have impacted the evolution of modern Chinese culture as well as the progress of Chinese revolutionary progress. Mao Zedong was very confident in Chinese culture and had elaborated the importance of cultural confidence from historical, modern and methodological perspectives. He provided a scientific concept of culture for the Chinese Communist Party to correctly understand and deal with the relationships between traditional culture and contemporary culture, Chinese culture and foreign cultures, and thus realized the sinicization of Marxism and won the great victory of the new democratic revolution.
