Yu Huaian’s novel A Brief History of the Wizard demonstrates the structural dilemma of the utopian system in the Cat Village, a remote village in West Hunan. Although the utopian Cat Village has done fair largely, even similar to the socialist system, it finally fell apart for the internal contradictions. The novel puts forward several potential problems. One is the paradox between the turbulent times and Cat Villagers’ preservation of life.Second, in the event of fierce collisions and tears between the traditional culture and the modernization, how can the people of the Cat Village rebuild the way of grasping the world.At last, how can the new Cat Village presents itself in the context of globalization where the values and life view are all changing.
