As a work of classical anthropology in its declining years, the civilization mirror which The Golden Bough constructs, carries forward the former contrast tradition, and meanwhile, surpasses it. Its disclosure of the process and current circumstances of civilization makes the self in the mirror begin to doubt themselves in a degree, and so endows The Golden Bough great influence to be a farewell masterpiece of classical anthropology. Although the validity that classical anthropology interpreted on civilization differences has its own weaknesses, its endeavor to pursue cultural logic of human unity is an important part of anthropology history itself, and its significance shouldn’t be neglected.
