Tess is based on the novel of Tess of the dUrbervilles by the famous British novelist Thomas Hardy. It depicts Tesss tragic life experiences in the end of the 19th century when the whole country was overwhelmed by the industrial revolution. Dark romance and death images have been perfectly applied in Tess so as to enhance the doomed tragic effect and thrilling story line. Moreover, the application of the dark romance in the movie proves that Tesss trajectory is that of a heroine whose tragedy is preordained thus the movie-goers passionately sympathize with her tragedy.
