Abstract:Tang Haoming’s long historical novel Zhang Zhidong moulds a Chinese hero with traditional elite culture character. The novel highlights the subject value of the hero in adversities and conflicts, and highlights the characteristics of the hero in social relationships and character comparison. Through the writing of Chinese officialdom culture, it also presents the tragedy of loyal patriotism, hardships of officialdom survival, and the dilemma of relizing ideals. This novel reveals the writer’s contradictary subject consciousness and embodies the thinking on the Chinese self-identity recognition.
