Abstract:Tragedies of women in First Year in Love represent Wang Yuewen’s male-centered ideology towards love and marriage. This novel reveals women’s solitude and a strong desire to love in the organized social moral and marriage system. Besides, it depicts the confusion and vulnerability of modern women in the disintegration of sense and sensibility. By describing the desire and lifestyle of each individual, First Year in Love exposes the conflicts between the social order and individual’s desire which are the evidence of human struggle between the eternal freedom and the existing life dilemma.
