Abstract:Yueyang was called Baqiu or Baling, which belong to the Sanmiao state and Luozi state in the ancient times and the Spring and Autumn Period respectively. The name Baqiu has historical relations with Junzi state and Dongyi tribe. In the first year of Taikang in Jin Dynasty (280), Jin state conquered Wu state and set the Baling County, which was changed from Baqiu. In the third year of Datong in Liang Dynasty (531) of the Southern Dynasties, Yueyang Prefecture was firstly set up, which had jurisdiction over Yueyang and other five counties, so got the name Yueyang. Since then, the place has been in the name of Yueyang, no matter of state, prefecture, Lu, Fu, county or city.
