Abstract:Objective weather report released by different media could embrace different stance to the same factual event. Text analysis guided by the attitude system of Appraisal Theory is employed to explore the underlying attitude conveyed by different language resources in two pieces of news reports on Beijing's hazy weather reported by Associated Press and China Daily. Result shows that AP resorts to implicit ways in guiding the readers to form strong negative impression towards China, while China Daily expresses its affirmative attitude in a more explicit and mild way to conduct a positive image of the government.
