Abstract:The novel Rouge of the North is adapted from the novella The Golden Cangue written by Eileen Chang, which was the rewriting of female tragedies under the new time and spatial background. Compared with the The Golden Cangue, in Rouge of the North, the heroine changes her “madness” into “trivialization” and the narrative also has been changed from outside perspective into inside perspective. Meanwhile, the narrative style of the novel becomes more and more rational gradually. In short, the rewriting of the novel reflects the pursuit of higher artistic standards and the creative consciousness on overseas market.
