Selected Essays of William Hazlitt is translated by Pan Wenguo under the theory of beautified translation. One of his translation methods is using many Pian Ou sentences, which is characterized with symmetric beauty. He harmonizes sounds, modifies forms, and matches meanings, which produces a number of Pian Ou. This paper will be carried out with a contrastive study of English and Chinese to analyze the sounds, forms and meanings of some typical examples from the Selected Essays of William Hazlitt, trying to figure out the method of translating English sentences with Pian Ou.
