Abstract:By the description of a field training bringing about great casualties, the novel of Martyrdom on Mt. Kunlun reveals a morbid zeitgeist which ailed China for several decades precisely. The psychological essence of this disease is adoration of suffering and infatuation of death. It pursues martyrdom as its aim and thereby creates the sense of loftiness and the spiritual transcendence. It overlooks and denies the value and dignity of individual's life, and hence proceeds to the opposite of humanity and humaneness.
