From the perspective of cognitive linguistics, this paper deals with the mental or psychological workings and rules during the whole process of irony communication. In the process of irony generation and comprehension, ability of reverse thinking and association, especially the ability of contrast association, all play an important role. To study irony from the cognitive perspective will help us to gain a better understanding of irony.
