Abstract:Metadiscourse is commonly characterized as “discourse about discourse”. In general, metadiscourse can not increase propositional meaning, but it can help the listener to understand the intention of the speaker and help to build the dynamic communication between the speaker and listener. From the perspective of “intersubjectivity”, the paper seeks to analyze how metadiscourse reflects “intersubjectivity”. A conclusion is drawn that metadiscourse is indispensable to communication and it is an important means of constructing “intersubjectivity”.
