Zhang Qiyun is a famous historic geography expert and educator in modern Chinese history.Whether to withdraw from the business of the world or participate in the social life is a difficult choice for all scholars during that time. Before 1949, Zhang Qiyun attempted to solve the conflict of “withdrawing from the business of the world or participating in the social life” by playing double roles, that is, took part in the Party of Kuomintang in 1939 and at the same time, he also played an important part in politics as a scholar. After 1949, Zhang Qiyun was affected by Confucian ideology, in order to express his gratitude for Jang Jieshi for receiving his help, he chose to participate into the social life actively, and he accepted Jiang’s invitation by working as a member of the government of Kuomintang in Taiwan. Then he gave up his research and devoted into politics. In political field, Zhang Qiyun still undertook the responsibility of a “scholar”, and he contributed a lot to the publishing and educating area at all fields of Taiwan.
