The transition of Taiwan’s authoritarian regime appeared in the third wave of democratization depicted by Huntington. Democratic transformation of Taiwan’s authoritarian regime is the joint outcome of rapid local economy and social developments, western-style democratic political model and a series of internal and external factors as well. Whether Taiwan’s authoritarian regime develops toward two-party or multi-party or one-party dominant ruling democracy system depends on the ruler’s political choices and the masses’ political participation.
