Abstract:With the implementation of “Plastic bag restriction” and “Ban on free plastics bags”, alternatives of plastics have been significantly sought after recently. Recent developments in green packaging derived from biomass fibers and nanofibers are reviewed, including natural fiber-reinforced composite, pulp molding-based plastic substitute, cellulose and nanocellulose based degradable plastics. These bio-based packaging materials derived from nature are green, environmentally friendly and biodegradable, and have great potential to revolutionize future green packaging.
