Abstract:Since Time magazine was launched in 1923, the style of its cover design has gone through many stages, which include: simple, conservative and rigorous style during 1920s—40s influenced by modernist design; rational, stereotyped and modern style during 1950s—70s influenced by the internationalism graphic design; the style of diversification because of the development of the information age, the style full of decorative features and the style of fun and conceptualization supported by computer technology in graphical creative expression during 1980s to the early 21st century. The style of simplicity and retro nostalgia are advocated after the magazine being revised in 2007. With the continuous developments in Time magazine cover design style, it forms a distinctive brand. As the label of its value, Time magazine cover will be the one that none of other magazines could copy.
