Abstract:From the end of the primitive society to the Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern dynasties, gold and silver were mainly used as jewelry and money, few used to make utensils. After entering the Sui and Tang dynasties, a large number of gold and silver artifacts were introduced from the western countries, thus gave rise to the fact that gold and silver were widely used for making wares. The designs of gold and silver artifacts were highly developed. Beginning in the Song dynasty, gold and silver implements features to be light, exquisite, elegant and beautiful on account of their secularization and commercialization. In the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, government officials had specialized workshops in terms of gold and silver production, and masters skillful in professional gold and silver smelting appeared in the folk. Gold and silver design and manufacture of utensils were quite prosperous. It is not difficult to find that the development of ancient Chinese utensils of gold and silver are gradually evolved from small pieces of jewelry to ware, it emerged and developed under the influence of the local culture, while formed a unique characteristics with the absorption of foreign design.
