Investigation results of the current pharmaceutical packaging showed there existed excessive pharmaceutical packaging to a certain extent, mainly the oversize in the unit packing, improper minimum sales unit packaging, and over decoration in packaging. A lot of natural resources were wasted in excessive pharmaceutical packaging, along with the negative impact on environment, the price hike in medicine price, which not only infringed on consumer interests, but also put the pharmaceutical enterprises in a vicious cycle. The root of the problem could be traced to unsound laws and regulations, the fierce competition in the industry and economic benefit orientation, consumer psychological blind obe-dience and vanity, influence of packaging market externality, deficiency in administration, and insufficiency in environmental awareness in the part of manufacturer and users as well. Some measures could be taken to alleviate excessive pharmaceutical packaging as establishing excessive packaging improvement system, researching and developing green pharmaceutical packaging.
