Abstract:Roland Barthes presented semiotic analysis of “Mythology” for mass culture with the analytic mode of linguistics, which created the semiotic mode for the study of mass culture. Barthes believes that mass culture is popular myth which is a two-level system of sign. It makes history natural and occasion permanent through the process of connotation for the purpose of disguising and shielding bourgeois ideology. The semiotic analysis of “Mythology” for mass culture just aims at revealing the disguised ideology by “demythification” so as to comprehend the essence and true connotation of the popular myth.
