Abstract:A group of flaneurs appeared in, as a representative of the 30’s city literature , New Felling Novels. They wandered in the fragmentized space and accelerated time, experienced intoxication, freedom and pessimism and dout, and chased after urban consumer culture without remorse. They didn’t reflect on urban culture itself much as the observer and experiencer for the modernity of 30’s Shanghai, as the social and culture situation of semi-colony settled the priority of western culture. City and its’ decadence, in the flaneurs’ opinion, were both what the speeding train of the era move toward.
