Abstract:The Southern Song Courtyard Painting was very special in the history of Chinese painting, since the Chinese painting technology reached a mature stage in this period. But the after generations’ judgment on it has been partial. Later literati painters assigned the Southern Song Courtyard Painting to the context of the North, and the courtyard painting was criticized even due to the painter’s group identity or individual painting style. This attitude has been in the history of painting since the Song Dynasty, and even affected the early study of modern Chinese painting history.
